Health & Physical Education

The priority for the Health and Physical Education curriculum is to provide ongoing, developmentally appropriate and explicit learning about health and movement. The prime responsibility of the Health and Physical Education curriculum is to describe the progression and development of the disciplinary knowledge, understanding and skills underpinning Health and Physical Education and how students will make meaning of and apply them in contemporary health and movement contexts.

The Health and Physical Education program at Tarneit Rise Primary School uses individual, team and cooperative learning techniques to optimize learning outcomes. Children are encouraged to develop healthy attitudes and a lifestyle that incorporates sport and leisure activities into their daily lives.
Health and Physical Education at Tarneit Rise Primary School (proposed name) has the responsibility of ensuring rewarding experiences and learning situations for the students in the areas of:

  • Physical Education
  • Health
  • Sport Education
  • Swimming

We aim to promote and develop a balanced program that incorporates the aspects of fitness, skill development, competition and fun. Our Physical Education specialist teacher provides specialist lessons to all grades on a weekly basis.

The school facilities include a competition-sized indoor gymnasium, a large multi-purpose soccer field, netball courts and an adventure playground area, as well as many passive and open play spaces, where children can use their imagination and develop their physical and social learning skills.

Swimming ~ The swimming program is provided by trained professionals and introduces and develops skills to promote confidence, safety and survival in the water via an intensive 5 day water safety program for prep – grade 6 children.

Annual swimming programs are usually held in Term 4.
